Where Nature meets Art

Life is being life and my health is being my health… Although I haven´t been able to paint with acrylics for almost 1 year now I am truly enjoying the art of watercolor. I have actually become a bit obsessed…

I have also befriended the thought of not stressing the result, but appreciating the process - and part of the process - for me - is to use time choosing the colors and seeing how the colors react to each other and to different papers.

I love watercolors, I love stones and I have developed an extra love combining the two things. And luckily enough, I am not the only one. Daniel Smith has a special line called Prima Tek extra fine Watercolors; where nature meets art. How poetic and beautiful is that?

WHERE NATURE MEETS ART
— Daniel Smith PrimaTek Extra Fine Watercolors

DANIEL SMITH created the PrimaTek line of paints made from minerals, some semi-precious. PrimaTeks express themselves with gorgeous granulation, giving a sense of movement and depth. And I have over time collected my own “jewelry box” of the Primatek line.

When it comes to stones I truly love understanding:

  • the symbolism (protection, strength, prosperity, love)

  • properties (healing, vibrational energy, chakra alignmentand)

  • color psychology (how the hue of a stone affects the mind and mood)

Jade pendant and watercolor made of jade on hand made Khadi paper

“Jadeite genuine, from deep, dark green mass tone to the palest wash it creates all the exquisite shades when we think of jade” and it really delivers. Jade is said to have the following cultural symbolism: particularly revered in Chinese culture, it is a metaphor for virtues like wisdom, justice, and compassion. It is believed to bring good fortune, health, and protection against evil. Color symbolism: green jade represents growth and balance.

Amazonite genuine. Look at this gorgeous bracelet that I got from my dear friend. She bought it in a shop in Ecuador specially for me and the bracelet is cleansed for good energy.

Amazonite genuine: “This lovely teal shade of feldspar microcline, a precious mineral, was named for the Amazon River and was used in ancient times as war paint by fierce female warriors. In addition, legends state that when you wear a piece of Amazonite you will harmonize your soul and be attuned to the spiritual dimension. Small carvings of Amazonite were tucked into a baby’s bunting to sooth and pacify. A shared piece of this lovely teal mineral was believed to enhance and further unite the union of soul mates”*.

Ammonite is known as the “stone of courage and truth”, believed to promote harmony, soothe nerves, and aid in clear, authentic communication. It aligns with the heart and throat chakras, fostering emotional balance and protecting against negative energy.

My kind father in law, a goldsmith, made this gorgeous necklace of amethyst for me.

According to Daniel Smith amethyst genuine “is a rich, true purple, it`s almost black in mass tone and capable of infinite gradation”.

Historically amethyst symbolizes peace, clarity and sobriety. Derived from the Greek amethystos ("not drunk"), it was believed to prevent intoxication, acting as a protective amulet. It represents spiritual wisdom, calm, and protection. Modern interpretations suggest it eases stress, anxiety and addictions.

Tiger`s eye genuine, “made from a light-refracting gemstone that glows like a cat`s eye, it creates excellent textural effects in watercolor”.

Tiger’s Eye is a powerful, grounding stone symbolizing confidence, courage and protection, often used to balance emotions and enhance personal willpower. It is known for enhancing inner strength, aiding in decision-making, and reducing stress by fostering a calm, focused mindset.

My daughter and my secret box of magical and healing stones - maybe I should try making my own watercolor in the future…?

... Happiness is not having the best of everything, but the ability to make the best of anything. Happiness is knowing you are doing what you can with what you were given. Happiness is not something that comes to you when every problem is solved and all things are perfectly in place, but in the shining silver linings that remind us the light of day is always there, if you slow down enough to notice
— The Pivot Year by Brianna Wiest

With these soothing and wise words from Brianna Wiest I am keeping my calm, making the best of my health and my days and slowing down to notice the light of day in the smallest things.

Love and light, until next time, MC
