Artist statement
I use mixed media, acrylics and gold. I like the change between abstract and figurative, canvas and paper. As a former lawyer, rules and regulations played a dominant role in my life. As an artist, I find it especially liberating to play, “mash it up,” and let the process lead the way - as you can see in “The Flow Collection”.
Mother Earth is the inspiration behind “The Poppy Collection”, “The Botanical Collection” and “The Riviera Collection.” I’m fascinated by her colors, nature’s palette and motifs, that allow an escape from everyday life. I like to challenge today’s hectic life by observing something that is accessible for everybody, like a single flower. What feelings arise? Examine the flower’s hue, intensity, value and temperature - smell, breathe and then let go.
I made “The Riviera Collection” when I was in Nice, France, with a special watercolor that is handmade in France. The inspiration came from a walk in the mountains surrounded by olive trees and views of the Mediterranean Sea sparkling like diamonds on the horizon.
I’m profoundly interested in the body and soul as a whole. When I make art time stands still and I find peace from within, like when I made the “The Dream Collection”.
I have always loved art - ever since I was child I have felt art in my whole body. I still get an overwhelming feeling in my chest when I see art that excites me. It is such a direct way to communicate - from one soul to another soul - even though the art might be over 100 years old, like my favorite art piece “La chambre bleue” made by Suzanne Valadon. Descartes said, “I think, therefore I am”. But for me it is “I draw, therefore I am”.
My hope is that my exhibition, “The Sacred Space,” will make you feel my love from my heart to your heart, from soul to soul.
